Monica,

Re: "According to this publication, the new Pentium 4 is only 131.4 square millimeters.
That should help yields and reduce costs - right?"

The smaller size die and moving to 300mm BOTH will help reduce costs.

Besides being the fastest Pentium 4, the new 2.4GHz will also be the smallest version of the chip to date, measuring only 131.4 square millimeters, according to a company representative.

This just shows how healthy Intel's .13u process really is. They are now able to shrink this process even further.

Meanwhile AMD's .13u process is nowhere to be found.

Monica, >Looks like Intel's upcoming 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 is not only faster, but is also smaller than its 2.2 GHz predecessor. According to this publication, the new Pentium 4 is only 131.4 square millimeters.

Yes, and I heard that Elmer was put in charge of putting the P4 on a diet to bring in the waistline a little. Looks like it worked.
