<font color=purple>Something New on Hammer
Posted 3/28/02 at 11:57 pm by Rat

I came across some pretty interesting info on the upcoming AMD Hammer processor here. As it turned out at CeBIT show in Germany AMD’s technical guys were much more willing to share some info on the new processors than in the beginning of this month at the IDF (see this news story). as a result, the guys managed to find out the following:

The CPU with A0 core stepping showcased in both cased worked at the actual core clock of 1.4GHz.
The next core stepping A1 is expected to appear in the nearest future and should work at 1.8Ghz-2GHz.
The first Hammer CPU will have the performance rating equal to 3400+ (by the way, we have already shared something of the kind last September).
The performance of Hammer processor in 32bit code will be 15% higher than that of Athlon XP working at the same core clock. Another 10% performance gain are promised to be delivered when the programs are recompiled in 64bit (without any code changes).

Also the info about not only VIA and SiS working on the chipsets for Hammer, but also ALi has been confirmed.

RE:"Nobody here seems very concerned by AMD's slips. They just listen to Jerry telling them about their "World Class Yields". While Jerry slings the BS and loses money Intel ships the silicon. The sad thing is these guys lap it up."

Don't be ridiculous. Everyone here sees the slips.
But they are normal...
Tony thinks it's not all that easy and I think that AMD has not been scramblin' enough.
Intel may be pulling wool over peoples eyes with marketing but it's working. I have no idea where AMD is selling chips because I can't see too many at retail. Maybe they have a big white box business...but it has to be big because there ain't many going into retail boxes.
My main distributor says that PC sales are slow...btw.
