JP: IBM does this so that you will be reliant on them . If the customer says well where will I get support for problems IBM replies"From us of course - sign this contract here and you are all set" So they have given the customer their hardware for a nice markup and then they get continuing revs. based on the fear that there will be no one source of knowledge other than IBM to support this fragmented O/S. Very clever on IBM's part. Their strength has always been in hardware so why spend a lot of effort and $$$ on developing a networked O/S. JFD
