Eight Hurt in Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem

Mar 29 6:43am ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A suspected woman suicide bomber blew herself up in a
suburb of Jerusalem on Friday, injuring at least eight people, witnesses said.

Police gave few immediate details of the explosion which rocked a large supermarket
in the Kiryat Yovel district at a time when many Israelis were doing their shopping
before the start of the Jewish Sabbath.

Several witnesses said the bomber was a woman.

One shopper told Israel radio, "The blast was huge. She was a few meters from the
entrance inside."

Israeli television said a security guard had spotted a woman suicide bomber and tried
to chase her out of the supermarket.

Ambulances rushed to the scene. Witnesses said the inside of the supermarket was
blackened.

Jerusalem police chief Mickey Levy said eight people had been taken to hospital.
Ambulance workers put the number at 11.

It appeared to be the second Palestinian suicide bombing since the start of the Jewish
Passover holiday marking the biblical exodus from Egypt.

A Palestinian suicide bomber killed at least 22 Israelis celebrating the start of
Passover in the city of Netanya on Wednesday in one of the bloodiest such attacks
since the start of a Palestinian uprising against occupation 18 months ago.

The blast occurred several hours after Israeli forces entered the West Bank city of
Ramallah, 15 km (nine miles) north of Jerusalem, saying it was trying to crack down
on militants behind a wave of attacks.

Just watching it right now on FoxNews. Ehud Barak is being interviewed about Sharon's declaration that Arafat is Israel's enemy (again.. :0)

Btw, it apparently was a man, dressed as a woman, who blew himself up.
