Ben

I'm afraid I know next to nothing about networking so I really don't know how or why uninstalling a scanner could result in that kind of problem. What model # scanner did you have? Perhaps we can search the HP site for some info.
Try this...Right-click Network Neighborhood / choose Properties. On the configuration tab put Windows Logon in the Primary Network Logon box instead of Client for Microsoft Networks and click ok.

Restart your computer and let's see if that takes care of it. If you get the logon box on the restart don't click the cancel button, go ahead and click ok and see if that works. If not, there are some other ways to try.

Ben try right clicking on the network neighborhood icon on your desktop and choose properties.

Under Primary Network Logon make sure it says Windows Logon instead of Client for Microsoft Network.

I think I had that same problem once and after saving that setting I never got the logon screen again.

It's a pain because it stops your windows start until you click cancel. Makes you sit there until the computer boots instead of getting yourself a cup of coffee in the morning.. :)
