That is they way I use the term. It isn't about religion, it is about religion as politics. I assumed everyone used it that way. Religious people who happen to be conservative, but do not want to thrust their religious views upon me with the machinery of the state, I do not consider the "religious right". Maybe that is just me and you thinking that. I've no way of knowing.

But then, why not just call it the right? The use of the term "religious right" necessarily targets the religious beliefs of people, and is almost always used in a pejorative sense.

I think it's quite surprising that people can see the offense in putting a Noel sign on a building, but can't see the offense in using the term "religious" in a derogatory sense.
