re: why can't AMD just admit that their model numbers are meant to be compared to a Pentium 4? They're fooling no one by saying that their model numbers are only meant to be relative to other Athlons.
did you join the ranks of Tony now? Amd is compared to athons but the starting value was conservatively normalized to p4's frequency. The formula would remain as is while p4's performance are within certain range and after that it would be re-adjusted. Which part of it you did not understand?
