No argument from me there. And Pearl Harbor has a very strategic location.

There was a problem with Pearl Harbor though. A very large number of the people living in Hawaii were of Japanese ancestry. This means a large percentage of the federalized National Guard Troops used to protect the Islands were Japanese Americans, who's loyalty was questioned (in 1941). It was a distrust of these people, that may have led to decisions, that resulted in the almost complete destruction of the U.S. Army Air Corps (in Hawaii), on Dec 7th - leaving the fleet vulnerable.
