While the max pain point is 47.50 that is not the whole story. If you look at the array of outstanding option expirations you will see that a close under 55 will achieve a great deal of pain, not much less than the actual point. I am guessing that a close below 55 is achievable and thus relevant to predicting the close on witching day.
