Sledgehammer for AMD is like "other" for Intel. If it works out, great, if not, there's nothing yet there to lose.

Sledgehammer is less of a "major component" of AMD's future plans than "other" is critical for Intel's future plans.

I don't know about that. If Mustang was a big yawn to the OEMs and Sledge turns out to be the same, how and when does AMD ever get taken seriously as other than a PC, W/S and small server chip vendor, and the last not even to the big OEMs?

Dan, <Sledgehammer for AMD is like "other" for Intel. If it works out, great, if not, there's nothing yet there to lose.>

The problem is that AMD isn't making any money in their bread-n-butter business, processors. At least Intel has more than enough profit from processors to make up for the $3B shortfall in "other."

Dan, Re: "If "other" doesn't do well for Intel next year, will Intel go belly up?"

:-)

This is one of your funnier FUD posts, Dan.

You make it sound like no other business has ever had an unprofitable segment.

I think I'll have to bookmark this one. <g>
