The chief suspect, British-born Pakistani militant Sheikh Omar, and Sheikh Adil, one of three men accused of sending e-mails containing photos of the Wall Street Journal correspondent in custody and threats to kill him, appeared in the court Friday as police filed the final charge sheets, said our correspondent .

They were brought from Karachi Central Prison in armoured police vehicles to the courthouse, which was surrounded by some 200 police.

Omar, Adil and nine accomplices, of whom seven are still at large, were formally charged last Friday with murder, kidnap for ransom and terrorist activities.

The trial of 11 suspects charged with the abduction and murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl will begin on April 5 and will be held inside a Pakistani prison.

"The trial will commence on April 5 inside a Pakistani prison," chief public prosecutor Raja Qureshi said while talking to the media men outside a Karachi anti-terrorism court, after submitting the final charge sheets.

Justice Shabbar Ahmed set the trial date during Friday's hearing, and appointed another judge from the anti-terrorism court to preside at the trial.

"The government has decided that the trial should be held inside the prison because of security reasons." Justice Shabbar Ahmed set the trial date during Friday's hearing, and appointed another judge from the anti-terrorism court to preside over the trial.

Advocate Mr. Abdul Waheed Katbar, who was executing the the ral case of Sheikh Umer, openly challenged the decision of the "inside prison trial". For it was prone to be the impartial hearing and proceeding of the trial of Sheikh Umer, he justifiably told.

While talking to the newsmen, advocate of the cheif suspect Sheikh Umer said that Sheikh Umer during hearing of his case demanded his case to be taken to the 'Shariat Cout' and proceedings of the case be conducted by it, for he did not have any more trust in these courts.

however, Mr. Qureshi said the court had not yet decided whether the hearing would be in-camera.
