Ho hum.... no offense Tekboy, but those comments from Perry Anderson were barely interesting...

No mention of the fact that each Arab nation was created out of nothingness, effectively disenfranchising the local population (placing millions of Palestinians under the rule of a Hashemite... the abuses against the coptics in Egypt when they were... placing the Sunni population of Syria under the control of the Alawite minority... etc, etc.. )

No mention of the fact that the Arab world launch an invasion of extermination against Israel in 1948...

No mention that former Nazi generals were providing direct military support and training to Arab armies, or that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, one of the most prominent figures on the Arab side in 1948, was a Nazi collaborator and on record as advocating a middle eastern version of the "final solution".

Misleading mention that Israel held 7% of Palestine prior to 1948, but 95% of it afterward... The British held that land before the Israelis, and with their departure, the Israelis executed the terms of the UN backed partitioning of Palestine (minus the part which went to the Hashemites).

No mention that the largest proportion of the Palestinian "nation" was eliminated from consideration as a Palestinian state due to Hashemite domination.

I could go on... But that's the problem... The whole issue is so complex and laden with arbitrary geographical politicking, that no one observer can truly capture all the nuances. Nor do they have an interest in objectively looking at the causalities.

And maybe you can help me out here Tekboy... I'm really stumped as to exactly constitutes a "Palestinian Culture"...

What exactly is that culture which allegedly distinguishes a Palestinian from some other ethnicity?

Is it language? Religion? Particular cuisine, fabric.. pottery??

Just what makes one Palestinian, other than being born in the region??
