I should not have to ignore my government entangling itself with religion. I am very happy to ignore all private religious observances- I am enthusiastically happy to ignore such things. But it is very wrong for the government to be in the religion business, any religion business. If I were to ignore it getting into that business that would be terribly wrong from my perspective.

But then, why not just call it the right?

There are a lot of factions on the political right, not all of them compatible. You have your paleoconservatives--the isolationist, protectionist, south-shall-rise-again folks. You have your libertarians. You have your Rockefeller conservatives. Not even all traditionalists have a theocracy-minded agenda. Typically, we talk about the religious right. I guess we could call them the theocrat right. But we don't. Because the term, religious right, has been in play for a long time, is common parlance, and so we use it because that's how language works. I don't mind if we change the term. I certainly don't want to offend anyone. If you have another term, I'll use it. But just plain "right" isn't precise enough to communicate the meaning.
