I'm afraid the statistics on people with graduate degrees and their religious beliefs and affiliations are there for all to see. Religion is allegedly chosen- while race is something you are born with. I think the two are different animals- although I certainly do not believe we should discriminate against people on the basis of religion-Of course this probably affects the religious people more than the non-religious, since the 86% who are religious probably discriminate every bit as much as the 14% who aren't. The surveys show the religious take a very very dim view of atheists and agnostics and even (if I recall the surveys) feel they should not be able to be in certain jobs. Look to the mote in thine own eye- especially if it is a bigger, more coercive eye.
