The only kind of hunting I dislike is trophy hunting. I don't think it's right to kill an animal just to show it off to your friends. I have no problem with killing for food, for killing to eliminate pests, to keep the herds down so that they all don't starve. I just don't agree with the idea that an animal should be killed for "bragging rights".

No, they are killed before they starve. Hunting season is just before winter when food supplies are at their lowest.

ie. An area is capable of carrying over 2,000 deer through the winter. If it holds 2,500 going into winter you might loose 1,000 to starvation and the rest will be weak. Harvest and eat 500 of those deer and the 2,000 left will come through winter in much better shape. Plus the 500 are eaten and not left to rot.
