Briefly (dinner-time!) In my experience BusAd, Engineering , and Science faculties tend to have large numbers, but not much involvement in university affairs outside of their own interests. Liberal Arts faculties are more activist, more committee and cause oriented, and therefore influential out of proportion to their numbers in university-wide affairs. I'm not saying universities generally are hotbeds of liberalism ... they are too diverse for that. Only that a liberal leaning is very prevalent.
