>>It may be that both sides will have to get their noses bloodied very severely before true negotiations are undertaken.<<

Though their noses have not been spotless and some Israeli leaders have been counterproductive, the fact is, I believe Jewish people had their noses bloodied very severely in the 30s and 40s and they've conducted 'true negotiations' several times since.

And will again, with or without further bloody noses. They reached peace with Egypt when Sadat was ready.

I think the Israelis have displayed their readiness to do the same with the Palestinians. But Arafat is not ready.

The mutual distrust of the opposing leadership suggests that when the peoples of Israel and Palestine are both ready, both Sharon & Arafat will have to step down before it can happen.

I gather some of JK's points, however.... the rich and powerful who fund such wars and exhort others to fght them get off scotfree. That even occurs in free societies like our own.

Condor all Arafat needs to do is to declare in arabic a cease fire and openly order the arrest of the participants in terrorist organizations. Or go another mile and ask the Israelis to help him out.

I can guaranty you that sincere peace negotiation will start immediately and he will get a state faster than you think.

BTW - did you know that now the US is in possession of extensive documents and testimony linking the Shoe Bomber from AA flight to the PLO senior leaders ??........ and much more results of the interrogation of Sahar Habash, one of Arafat’s closest aides, who is the biggest fish rounded up by Israeli troops since the onset of the Ramallah operation early Friday, March 29.

Now that is not startling as it was expected ..... from there the strong turn in Bush stance
