Other than watch Sharon slaughter Arafat with Bush's blessing, what can we do ?
It is a little late for W to stop the violence. Bush ignored the Israel-Palestinian problem for
almost a year and even after Zinni's previous visits, Bush and his advisers never paid
much attention to the escalation of violence between Sharon and Arafat. Why? Because
Bush believed that if Clinton had tried to broker a settlement, then he shouldn't have
anything to do with it. Over the past several weeks, I've heard several columnists say the
same thing on tv. Bush abandoned Clinton projects on principle. Stupid isn't it? Bush's approach to
foreign policy is to react! It would be a pleasant change if he could act b4
disaster hits. Why didn't he take the 9/11 threats seriously? Why did he ignore the Middle East violence?
As you suggest, he didn't have a foreign policy other than to avoid one for as long as possible.

And now, as you suggest, his administration is obsessed with the invasion of Iraq.....
