Thanks for your reply, skinowski,

Do I understand correctly that the implication of your words is that Israel is a colonial power in the Middle East? Would that further imply that the state of Israel has no legitimate right to exist in the region?

No, I only have the West Bank and Gaza in mind.

As for the "traveling" comment, I don't mean anything particularly difficult. I think that the "terrorism" in which the folk are resisting what they deem to be an occupation is different in kind from the "terrorism" that "travels" the globe looking for targets. Thus, however, morally wrong the suicide bombing of the Palestinians at the moment, I think one understands it different from that of Al-Qaida. The latter, evidently, wishes to attach itself, at last rhetorically, to the Palestinians, but that does not make them the same.

One way to say this is two different moments of thought. The first is to address the moral acceptability of tactics, the second is to try to understand. I'm addressing the latter issue as I try to keep rethinking my way into this very new world.

You know very well that any such evidence (beyond what I said above) would be circumstantial. Either one sees the connection, or one doesn’t, or one elects not to see.

AK, I think this is not a good way to try to think. At certain levels of thought one needs evidence, however disputable it might be. If you wish to assert a link without any evidence to advance, you obviously have that right. But, in so far as one of the things you are trying to do with posts here is persuade others, then you will not be able to.

Some folks on this thread are very open minded, trying to think newly about new things. When we talk to one another, we need to offer some reasons for why we think as we do. Both for reasons of comity and persuasion.

Thanks again for your post,

John
