Rather than trying to teach sexual abstinence, what we really really want children to do (or what I really really want children to do) is not get pregnant. What we want them to do is not produce babies they're not equipped to raise. There are different methods for how one avoids producing babies. And different views on the acceptability of each. None of those methods is the object, in itself, although they are often treated that way. The object is to not produce babies until and unless equipped to nurture them into good citizenship.
