Ok, if you're going to call the lessening of trade barriers as compared to those of other nations 'special' then i'll just need to keep in mind how you intend the term ... again, as with religion, it is necessary to establish definitions

But i wouldn't use the word 'special', because to me it connotes inequality before the law between members of the two nations specifically under discussion for their trading policies

No, the problem is not in your second-to-last sentence there, it is in your second sentence, here i'll number them -

1. 'A nation decides it wants to increase its imports into the US.'

2. ' So it picks an industry that already has a large trade with the US and provides it with tax money so it can lower its prices and take yet more market share, with the intention of eventually bankrupting the US industry and achieving a monopoly. '

Huh? ..... geez, lol, where to start ... well with number one - it's individual businesses deciding to perform each job of work, produce each product, find each customer, not the nation ..... but number two is touching on the pine lobby's propaganda, 'provides it with tax money' - i defy you to document this charge ... ever notice how you never see any comprehensive meaningful figures out of them? - well i submit it is because no such figures support their bullshit

There are distinct systems of land tenure, to be sure ... i had planned to get into this in detail on FOs vs Cuddlies but have used up today's net time in other posts and PMs ... but i suggest to you, check it out before you parrot the charges of mafiosos, you'll find they have to get into a lot of chicanery with number-fudging to make their case ... like, briefly, comparing 1Q01 to 2Q01 to show a 'big increase' in the latter, well duh first quarter is in lumber trade always the slowest of the year, second quarter always the most bouyant, just because of seasonal variation in homebuilding .... other things too, like quoting emergency rehab bugkill stumpage as being representative, they're not ...... anyway, time's up, later
