Yeah, for a dead man, Yasser Arafat is making a lot of noise. He is staging his own personal Armageddon on the way out.

Settlements are not at the heart of anything. If you had a democratic Palestinian government -- if you had any Palestinian government -- Israel would hand the most of the land over and let the settlers choose life in Palestine or evacuation. In short, the talks didn't fall apart because of settlements and settlements are not preventing the talks now.

Israel just can't live with an active terrorist government headquartered in the suburbs of Jerusalem. One that has trained a generation of suicide bombers, and that if yielded to now, would only revert to terrorism the next time it ran into difficulties or thought the time was ripe to push the Jews into the sea.
