Remember the tapeout for the Hammer? There were many who were swearing it hadn't taped out because there were no reports or rumors until the day AMD announced that they had working silicon.

Unfortunately for AMD that probably meant that no OEM was interested or cared.

You might be right. If AMD does have something in the works, I would expect an announcement tomorrow when Intel launches the 2.4GHz Pentium 4. AMD usually launches their chips around the same time as Intel - probably to take the air out of Intel's sails, rather than add air to their own.
