the forester must know genetics
A forester, Patrick Matthew, wrote a description of new species arising from natural selection in 1831 prior to the publication of Darwin's Origin of Species by Natural Selection. The work was presented as an appendix to a Navel Timber Journal and was not noticed until after Darwin's book had made the subject a sensation.
