Both the Tories and Patriots formed "terrorist" groups aimed at driving out civilian populations from certain territories, with many Tories fleeing to Canada to retain protection under the crown. btzedek.co.il But does that mean that this was the SOLE, or even the primary means by which the revolution was conducted? Certainly not... And since "guerilla fighting" was consider "inappropriate" and sniping was considered "murder", American forces certainly violated what were then considered the traditional rules of war. The American revolution was a civil war, just as much as much of the inter-Arab struggle has been just the same.
