The good news is that wind power and other renewables don't have to depend on federal leadership.

That's good, because the only progress that will be made towards safety and economic freedom in this country is without the federal government, in fact against it.

The steady progress of the White House and Congress is towards an all-powerful central government, laws for greater coercion and secrecy, shifting the burden of taxation to the unwary, and greater dependency on entrenched oil interests and defense.

Like the citizens on Flight 93 we are on our own. Fortunately we have a chance to take control of the plane before it goes down.
The biggest fight we as American citizens have is to defeat the federal government in its predatory battle for our wallets, our media and our economy, with Bush Inc. as its chief Predator.

State governments, as mentioned in the article, are more representative, more restrained, by comparison, and less out of control.
They have, for example, fewer secret police.

For energy, a revolution will be made by entrepreneurs who demonstrate how to escape the predators, offer non-M.E. gasoline and diesel to consumers, and sustainable alternatives such as biodiesel, wind, and the cheap and convenient means for deployment.

The nice thing about the capitalist system and direct entrepreneurial action is that a good idea once launched is unstoppable, even by gov't legislation.

Wind is already cost-effective. If advancing non-governmental technology improves internal combustion efficiency 50%, reducing costs for solar and hydrogen 50% to 75%, we'll have a unstoppable revolution. A few M.E. terrorist organizations and a few gov't terrorist organizations will go unfunded. The Saudis will either reform or be overthrown, and so will Bush Inc.

What about the Secret Police?
That's a much more difficult matter.

Man, that sounds like a cross between a Berkeley liberal and a Montana freedom-fighter.
Odd for a formerly liberal-minded engineer ...
Excuse me whilst I go get my Montana freedom-fighting latte

Cheney plan = government-guaranteed profiteering by Big Oil, on the backs of the taxpayers.
