Taipei, April 1 (Bloomberg) -- United Microelectronics Corp., the world's second-largest maker of made-to-order chips, appointed Vice Chairman John Hsuan as chief executive officer, replacing Robert Tsao.

Tsao, who replaced Hsuan as chairman last June, will retain that position, the company said.

UMC last month said it expects its factory-use rate for the second quarter to exceed 70 percent and the rate may grow further in the third quarter.

The company forecasted a factory-use rate of as much as 60 percent for the first quarter compared 45 percent in the previous three months.
