Compaq Signs 3-Year Global Deal With Kimberly-Clark to Support 28,000 Users In 35 Countries
HOUSTON, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today announced that it has signed a three-year global services and technology agreement with Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB - news). Under the agreement -- which Compaq estimates is worth approximately $100 million -- Compaq will deliver desktops, notebooks, iPAQ Pocket PCs, industry-standard ProLiant servers, and services to 28,000 users in 35 countries.

``Kimberly-Clark is a company with trusted global brands supported by leading technologies,'' said Terry Assink, vice president and chief information officer for Kimberly-Clark. ``We have a long heritage of continuously improving the value of IT and reducing total cost of ownership of IT tools and services. We chose Compaq because we are confident that they will deliver a broad range of resources where we need them -- from North America to Latin America to Europe to Asia -- when we need them, and at a predictable price and performance level.''

The solution delivered to Kimberly-Clark unites Compaq's strength in technology building blocks across server, storage, personal computer, and handheld wireless devices -- supported with Compaq Global Services' capabilities.

``Compaq provides a way for Kimberly-Clark to reduce IT costs by designing, deploying, and managing its IT infrastructure on its own terms,'' said Compaq's Mike Winkler, executive vice president, Global Business Units. ``The three-year commitment from Kimberly-Clark clearly demonstrates their belief in Compaq's ability to deliver innovative solutions today and in the future. Agreements such as this one with Kimberly-Clark demonstrate how Compaq is gaining tremendous momentum in the marketplace. Compaq's enterprise customers are endorsing our strategy by voting with their business.''

A $14.5 billion global consumer products company, Kimberly-Clark is best known for its industry-leading brands such as Kleenex, Scott, Huggies, Pull-Ups, Kotex, and Depend. The company has facilities around the globe and focuses on personal care, tissue and healthcare products. Nearly one-fourth of the world's population, or 1.3 billion people, used Kimberly-Clark products last year.
