Mixed CDMA Newsflow Expected This Week – Trading Implications for QCOM

* Japanese operator launches CDMA 1X: KDDI launched its CDMA 1X in Japan today amidst much fanfare. We expect the company to heavily market the service and would view a related uptick in monthly CDMA net additions from the recent ~150K level to 200K - 250K as a positive for QCOM. In addition, new wireless data services offered over CDMA 1X are viewed as a longer-term positive for OPWV.

* Strong Korean CDMA subscriber numbers expected: We expect Korean operators to report positive monthly net additions during the 1st week of April. SK Telecom monthly net add’s for example have been trending near 200K since Q4 of 2001 on the strength of CDMA 1X and color handsets. Our checks indicate momentum continued during the month of March and positive subscriber adds could be viewed as a positive for QCOM.

* Last quarter Verizon Wireless published a subscriber net additions update during the 1st week of January. We expect a potential update during the first week of April.
