I would call it "an accounting entry".

Do they still own the properties ? If the price of gold increases and these high cost mines become economic again, will you say that Barrick's cost of producing gold has decreased?

To suggest that an accounting entry can increase/decrease the cost of producing gold, seems rather far fetched.
