At this point, I would hardly consider the KYO a 3G phone. There is no BREW, color screen, camera & v mail, or anything that I would expect as remotely useful to distinguish it from a 2G Sanyo 4500.

Verizon will be offering a new phone from Sharp, which was announced the other day. It will be launched soon with their BREW product launch. I hope Verizon has the class to come out with a unique marketing name for the service.

There are over 90 phones from 20 vendors for WCDMA (5) and CDMA2000 (85). I'm sure that LG and Samsung will try to export a few decent models.

I wish Verizon would offer more that one 1XRTT phone. I think KDDI has the better idea in kicking off their 1XRTT service with a choice from five phones. I hope Sprint PCS offers more than one phone when they start. I'm sure the Kyocera 2235 is a terrific phone but one size does not fit all. I like the style of the KDDI phones better, flip up with large color screens, but I guess Verizon need a dual band phone that does AMPS which limits their choice while the KDDI phones are single band.

VZ is launching a 3G network, but not really a 3G service. The blue screen KYO is hardly a 3G phone, more like just another version of the modem also being offered. Not that there is anything wrong with this type of launch. Just get the network up and see what happens. About a year ago would have been nice, though, if this is all the initial launch is going to be.

I think you will find the PCS launch will resemble KDDI. Or I should say I hope, or better yet, I am betting.
