I've worn them for at least 20 years. I even had some for my pumps, but the podiatrist wouldn't let me wear heels higher than two inches. You'll find it's not all that easy to find shoes deep enough in the back, even when you remove the liner, that your heel seats well and stays put. I've seen shoes in catalogs that claim to be cut deeper for orthotics but the one I ordered didn't work.

My pronation problem has improved over time and I wear sandals now, Clark's, when I'm not going to be walking a lot. They have wonderful support.
