Quaker Foods Slashes Transportation Costs
By Richard Karpinski
Pepsico's Quaker Foods and Beverages said Monday it has cut as much as 8 percent off annual transportation costs with the help of an e-procurement system from Logistics.com.

It was Quaker's fourth time using Logistics.com for help in negotiating its annual transportation contracts. The company said it has saved between 4 percent and 8 percent over the past five years with Logistics.com's help.

In this engagement, Quaker deployed Logistics.com's OptiBid platform, to negotiate contracts for truckload and intermodal capacity.

The OptiBid process analyzes historical shipment volumes, creates online bid requests, invites selected carriers to bid on the freight, and analyzes the bid responses. Using optimization tools, the platform can also develop optimal routing guides to move the most goods in the fewest trips.

Using the tool, Quaker was able to procure more than $7 billion of transportation service contracts, resulting in more than $480 million in documented savings, the company said.Partial client list:Advanced Drainage Systems Inc.
