I am not sure whether anyone but a lawyer would think this is funny, but I'll post it anyway for what it's worth. The first sentence in the opinion dismissing Howe's suit is "This case involves allegations of 'an unholy alliance of high public officials' and 'large bullion banks' to manipulate the price of gold." As soon as I read that, I started laughing to myself. The judge is warning the reader that he thinks Howe is a crackpot.

Every so often one comes across a memorandum opinion in a case brought by a crackpot. The funny thing is that the judges are too polite to come right out and say, "the plaintiff is a nut" - - but you can tell.
