< I tell my kids when they get a form asking for their race to check "other" and write in "human". >

Point well taken.... and not lost in the politics.

>>The real undoing of the racial classification system of the late twentieth century has come from individuals choosing in large numbers to intermarry between the different "races". There are vast numbers of black/white, black or white/Asian, and other combination marriages. These marriages produce children, millions of them in the aggregate. And the census form or college application comes in, and the kids say, "which box should I fill in?"<<

Absolutely, OMD.

Recently I was traveling with my daughter's step son, ...and he calls me "gramma" and I refer to him as my grandson... and he happens to be black and he's 13 years old.

Twice I had women ask me if he was "my son".....that would have never happened a generation ago, the thought would never even occur.
