Well, if I were a Muslim, I'd have a real tough time taking a strong stand against my radical brothers. When so many of them in the Holy Lands believe in jihad, what's a non-violent Muslim supposed to say?

Maybe that's another part of the problem, that the whole world is hoping that mere words will solve the problem. When non-violent Muslims are figuratively held hostage by the radicals in their own hometowns, when the Mideast governments are a slave (or a beneficiary) of the flames fanned by the radicals, and when the radicals aren't burdening themselves with rational thought, then how effective is diplomacy going to be?
