You're a John Lennon fan? It's not the religions which are at fault, just Homo sapiens. In the case of Stalin, the no. 1 slaughterer of his own people, no religion (in the theological sense) was involved. Don't be so sure of 'no religion' in his case. The young Stalin was a seminarian, wasn't he?

The common factor is that they are alpha males doing away with any threats within their own tribes, then doing away with competition in neighbouring tribes if they can, which then gives them a lot more girls for their supporters [mostly they do as in Srebenica and separate the females before killing the males, but in Hiroshima and WTC, that wasn't possible, so the whole lot are killed]. Such alpha males have notoriously large libidos. These days they don't really think of it in those terms because it's embarrassing to admit that's what's going on in the base of their brains [which they might not be aware of]. They use religion, ideology, patriotism, xenophobia or whatever slogan is most suitable for the gullible masses at the time to get them to support the boss becoming bossier. They need a philosophical explanation to get the murder going. Religion is a very good one. If the gullible really do believe they are off to a better place when they die, they'll be less concerned about their own death, so religion is quite handy like that. That's my theory anyway. Mqurice
