Monica:

AMD has just done UMC, Alchemy and McCann?Erickson deals...INTC has just dropped $10 billion in net income trying to prop up the p4...I like the signals emanating from AMD much moreso than those from INTC...No doubt there is risk associated with Hammer, but, imo, not nearly so much as with p4...p4 seems to be dragging an anchor from my perspective...Imagine a company 10 times the size of AMD losing its competitive edge as has been the case over the past 3 years...INTC's going forward with p4, an architectural design that has in 2 years yet to prove its staying power...Mercy it can hardly keep afloat with ATHY XP as a competitor...Just how will it do so against Hammer??? By the way, where is the guy now who was in charge of the p4 project??? Who's next to get the heave ho???

" if the Hammer can only compete on the desktop, it becomes merely an Athlon replacement"

Dear, sweet Monica. An Athlon replacement is not a bad fate. A most important point is that it isn't limited to the desktop. Remember that the Athlon is moving quickly to rule the laptop segment, and is making inroads into the server segment. Ok, it might be limited to 1 and 2 way servers, but guess where most of the sales are?
