There were a slew of them in 1999 (OHG/3GPP/3GPP2) Last significant one I can recall was held in NJ last fall to discuss possible areas of harmonization between 3GPP WCDMA with the HSDPA extension and 1xEV-DV. << Any ideas what can come out of it? >> Harmonization? <g> << Who could benefit? >> Theoretically, the 2 major standards bodies, vendors, carriers, and us subscribers of future wireless services.. Less redundancy in standards work. Less R&D for the vendors and more common architecture. Better interoperability for the carriers. Better opportunity for us to communicate anytime, anywhere. Peace in the valley. <g>The workshop is intended to promote work on harmonization of the 3GPP and 3GPP2 IP core networks. This includes the analysis of the differences and commonalties between the current 3GPP and 3GPP2 IP multimedia services, architectures, and protocols. Requirements for long term IP network evolution will also be considered. The workshop will attempt to identify areas ripe for further harmonization work. The output of this workshop is may be used by the 3GPP or 3GPP2 to guide future work but is not binding on either organization. This is the Agenda:1. Call to Order 2. Opening Remarks from Host(s) 3. Attendance Registration 4. Distribution & Numbering of Contributions 5. Assignment of Contributions to Agenda Items 6. Adoption of Agenda 7. Day 1 (Comparison Analysis) •Terms/Definitions •Architecture Comparison •IMS/MMD Review •Overview of 3GPP and 3GPP2 Work Status •Inter-Operability •Roaming 8. Day 2 – Morning (Future Evolution) •Requirements for future work/enhancements •Evolution Strategy 9. Day 2 – Afternoon •Conclusions •Recommendations & Next steps •3GPP/3GPP2 Feedback •Future Meetings 10. Adjournment I have not taken a look at any of the contributions but they are posted here: ftp://ftp.3gpp.org/tsg_cn/Joint_Meetings/IP_CN_Workshop/ If you drill down on the MWIF site there are some interesting whitepapers on All-IP core and RAN there.mwif.org - Eric -
