Dear Combjelly:

Top of the line Athlon 0.25u was 1GHz. Top of the line Athlon 0.18u is 1.73GHz. Where do you get 40%? Top of the line P3 0.18u was 1.0GHz and top of the line P3 0.13u is 1.4GHz, that is 40%. Top of the line P4 0.18u was 2.0GHz and top of the line P4 0.13u is 2.2GHz so 10% is all they have now (granted it will rise to 2.4GHz but that's still only 20%). So far, their comments do not stand up to reality.

Besides, P4 at 2.4GHZ is still not twice as fast as a 1GHz P3 0.18u. Athlon has more than doubled performance of a Athlon 0.25u 1GHz with AXP2100+.

Combjelly,

Re: "As was proven, an Athlon on 0.18 micron wasn't much faster than an Athlon on 0.18 micron."

Huh ... As usual, you're not making much "sense". <ggg>

Make It So,

It wasn't any faster.

But Athlon on .18 was a lot faster than Athlon on ".25/.18 hybrid"

Right now, 40% faster is all that's needed to nail P4 to the wall, and I think AMD has a reasonably good chance of getting that much - and maybe quite a bit more.
