"I hope that any problems associated with W-CDMA in a fixed environment could be fixed by then"

Maybe you are right there, as there should not be hand-off problems with asynchronicity if it is a fixed mobile environment.

"Since this is really a "last mile" solution focusing on fixed applications, I dont think that it will be seen as competition to Docomo"

I have to think that one would cannabilize the other. Hey even ATT got touched from their Angel. <gg>

I still think there would be multitudes who would like the affordable fixed broadband for desktop appliances at home and work and then cellphones for voice when bopping around. And with telematics maybe even less of a need.

Unless you are a salesperson or technician in the field, or a family on a road trip would you see a major need for mobile 3G.
