HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - China Mobile has yet to draft spending plans for third generation (3G) mobile phone services, which are unlikely to be ready for the China market in the next two years, the South China Morning Post reported, citing company chairman Wang Xiaochu.

"We believe commercial opportunities for 3G in China will take at least two years to come," he said.

The company has a capex budget of 8.6 bln usd for the next two years, but it does not yet have 3G spending plans, the paper said. Chief financial officer Ding Donghua said the 2.5G mobile technology will account for 4.7 pct of the budget.

He noted that the company is waiting for further developments in 3G technologies, including the wideband code division multiple access for mobile communications networks global system, CDMA 2000 for CDMA networks and the home-grown time division synchronous code division multiple access system -- before deciding which one to use.
