Texans Get Opportunity to Nominate Outstanding Texans for Legends of Texas Bridge At Sun City Texas
GEORGETOWN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 2002--For the first time, all Texans will be given the opportunity to nominate outstanding Texans to be commemorated on the Legends of Texas Bridge in ceremonies June 10 at Sun City Texas in Georgetown.

The bridge honors Texans, 50 years of age or better, who have given back to their community and enhanced the lives of those around them. Former honorees include Walter Cronkite, Tom Landry, Barbara Bush, and James Michener. In the past nominations for Legends of Texas were limited to those made by past honorees.

``Each year since 1996, we have had the pleasure of recognizing six to eight Texans who have touched the lives of many and have made Texas a better place to live. Legends of Texas annual ceremonies are held at Sun City Texas to honor these special award recipients,'' says Gary L. Newman, vice president and general manager of Sun City Texas by Del Webb. ``A granite marker with their name and hometown is placed on the bridge for future generations to see. Also a $1,000 donation is made by Sun City to the charity of their choice. We feel it is a good way to honor exceptional citizens who are 50 or better.''

Texans may make nominations by going to the Legends of Texas Web site at www.Legendsoftexas.com, where there is a nomination form, or they may email their nominations to nominate@legendsoftexas.com. Nominations may also be mailed to Gary L. Newman, vice president and general manager, Sun City Texas by Del Webb, 5353 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628.

To be nominated a Legend of Texas, the nominee must reside in Texas and have at least 10 years of residency, be 50 years old or better, and cannot currently hold or be running for public office. Also they should be recognized throughout their community as an exceptional citizen through their deeds and service and have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life there.

Contributions may include, but are not limited to social services, education, sports, entertainment, community development, development of culture and ethnicity, health care, children, the elderly, the physically disabled and the economically disadvantaged.

Sun City Texas by Del Webb (www.suncity.com/texas) is the premier community for active adults 55 and better. Located just north of Austin in Georgetown, Sun City Texas offers its residents championship golf courses, swimming pools, hiking trails, tennis courts and numerous additional amenities in a beautiful Texas Hill Country setting.
