The Gulf of Tonkin "incident" didn't happen.
The analogy is not completely correct. What I tried to say is that the attack on Sept 11 has not really been followed by a war, yet. Perhaps the correct analogy is to the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebonon which was followed by an invasion of Grenada. Unless the war spreads to Iraq it will turn into a police action until the majority of Bin Laden's leadership is caught or forgotten. Is less about the incident than the aftermath.
