Not unless AMD puts up half the capital required to build the UMC fab.

The announcement of the relationship with UMC included no statement that AMD would invest $$. The "joint venture with UMC sounded very much like the Fujitsu joint venture (FASL) that was formed to manufacture flash memory.

Fujitsu built and paid for the fab and AMD provided the product design. AMD purchased a share of the flash chips from FASL -- a profit was retained by FASL -- and then resold the flash. AMD paid for none of the cost of the FASL fabs.

Jozef, please provide the "link" that shows AMD owning half the Fab.
Otherwise, AMD will not get wafers at "cost" AND this will be the only 300mm
AMD alternative ... Correct??!!
