Does anyone have an opinion to the announcement from Alias/Wavefront and their reduction of the price of Maya graphic software?

A friend works in the animation industry and all the graphic artists, animators, and designers from her company are freaked over the reduction of price now making it affordable for them to purchase. 15 people there alone have put in orders to buy the software. And this is a relatively small company. At $1,999.00 a shot, and a world market available to it, I wonder how much this could generate to SGI's bottom line. It would seem pretty significant. Thoughts please.
