I was brought up a Catholic and, though I've given up the faith, there are still some vestigial roots I can't be rid of. I'm not enraged, and I don't think any Catholic should be.

Churches in Catholic thought and practice are the ultimate sanctuary available to anyone, regardless of the reasons for seeking it. The Palestinians are simply using this aspect of Catholic practice.

I agree with Carranza. Catholic churches have a long history of providing sanctuary to whoever needs it. Even armed men.
