Hello back, WS:

I don't think he was trying to imply a he had or was presenting a scholarly knowledge of Eastern Religion. I felt that he was pointing out the similarity of "mystic" notions and modern physics. He was using the Eastern religions as a single example. Tying the modern physics to a synthetic philosophy which is phrased in modern terms is the only means of continuing to keep spirituality alive. IMO.

I think one's philosophy should not be at odds with the truth. I've read many books by the Dalai Lama and he is quite clear that Tibetan Buddhism isn't threatened by empirical physics. There should be no experiment possible that is inconsistent with the true essence of the universe.

I like this approach. It should be clear (hopefully) that I was being metaphoric when I said "Science fill the cracks in God". It is clear that the notion we hold of God is imperfect and I don't generally use the term G-O-D.

Tibetan Buddhism in the form promulgated by the Dalai Lama is aligning itself with science instead of opposing it. His Holiness feels that great truths are truths no matter where or how they are found. This is a very different tactic than most western religions have taken. While I'm intrigued by an ancient religion embracing scientific truth, I don't think this is my way to truth. But it is a useful viewpoint to reference, especially when so much of our western religious tradition seems opposed to scientific truth.
