Watch it for a rise above 22.75 where it should be overextended and potentially reverse and save my bacon. Will we get there today?stockcharts.com [h,a]daclyyay[pb50,200!d20,2][vc60][iUb14!Uk14!La12,26,9]&pref=G Thanks for the comparison chart of VIX and NASDAQ from BigCharts:bigcharts.marketwatch.com From Briefing.com: 8:40AM : Jobless claims rose 64K to 460K in the Mar 30 week; though this was much higher than the 380K consensus, the Labor Dept is blaming the increase on federal extension filings, which were recently approved by Congress... As a result, this should not be seen as a negative for the economy, as it reflects a legislative change rather than an economic change... Nonetheless, futures market not reacting well to the headline figures... Presently, the S&P futures, -4.50, are 0.50 points below fair value while the Nasdaq 100 PMI is down 8.08 points... 7:56AM Atmel Corp downgraded at AG Edwards (ATML) 9.50: AG Edwards downgrades to HOLD from Strong Buy based on valuation; believes that co is unlikely to beat Q1 ests and that a slight rev miss is likely, and also sees continued pressure in memory prices during the summer. Price target is $11. 7:28AM Intel should see better margins, market share gains-- Pru (INTC) 29.87: Prudential is positive on INTC due to improving margins and mkt share gains; co's new 2.4ghz P4 has a 10% smallerdie size than previous P4s as a result of a successful optical shrink; smaller die size came sooner than expected and should have positive implications for gross margins going forward; also, firm believes that new products should allow INTC to gain share against AMD. Reiterates Buy rating and $44 price target. 7:12AM Intersil should be a top performer in 2002-- Lehman (ISIL) 26.12: Lehman says that the co's strength in analog/WLAN combined with a valuation discount should make ISIL a top performer in 2002; analog (65% of revs) is seeing accelerating growth and margin expansion, WLAN 802.11b products are ramping and next gen 802.11g and 802.11a should boost top line by 2H02, and valuation is cheap vs pure play analog and enterprise comm IC peers. 7:07AM ChipPAC sees Q1 ahead of guidance (CHPC) 8.95: Company expects to post a Q1 loss of $0.15-$0.16 on revenues of approx. $79 mln, compared to previous guidance of a $0.18-$0.22 loss on revenues of $74-$77 mln. Consensus estimates for the qtr are -$0.19 and $76 mln. 7:03AM Planar Systems cuts Q2/FY02 estimates (PLNR) 24.76: Provider of flat-panel display solutions warns that Q2 earnings will post between $0.14-$0.16 (consensus $0.23) Sees sales of $48-$50 mln (consensus $43.5 mln). While company generated satisfactory top-line sales, several non-recurring expense items and mix changes hurt gross margin. PLNR lowers full-yr outlook to $0.85 (consensus $1.03).finance.yahoo.com Will we get a bounce today after opening weak again? I sincerely hope so.
