It could also be that since P4's are selling and Hammers are not - Gateway wanted to have a product that people would buy. Otherwise they become another screwdriver shop.

Re: Most likely, it is too costly for a box maker to support two different brands of uPs.

AMD uses one socket for Athlon, Athlon XP, Duron, and Athlon MP.

Intel uses differenct sockets for PIII, PIII Xeon, P4, P4 423, P4 Xeon, and Itanium.
